Patient Registry

The Center for Disease Analysis Foundation provides the following tools free charge.  All of these tools can be modified to fit your organization’s needs. The language can be changed by using Google translate to translate the file into your local language.

We only ask that if you make substantial improvements and feel comfortable sharing your work, you will provide us a with a copy of your code to share with others.  We also ask that you give us credit when publishing or presenting.

In our programs, we have used REDCap (https://www.project-redcap.org), a free patient registry developed and distributed by Vanderbilt University.  It has the proper security built-in to protect patient personal data including encryptions of these fields in the database.  The software is available free of charge to non-profits, universities and government organizations (https://projectredcap.org/about/faq/).  You don’t need to subscribe to REDCap Cloud as this is a fee based service and free version works well for most organizations (unless you are running very complex clinical trials).  Contact redcap@vumc.org to request a license.  REDCap can be set up in multiple languages and REDCap mobile app (https://projectredcap.org/software/mobile-app/) allows data entry on mobile devices even when access to the internet is limited or unavailable.  Installation procedure can be found online (https://projectredcap.org/software/requirements/).  The alternative to REDCap is DHIS-2 provided by University of Oslo (https://dhis2.org).  We have not worked with DHIS-2 but it is also free and a viable option for creating a patient registry.
