El genotipo m\u00e1s importante que causa la infecci\u00f3n por VHC en PWID a nivel mundial es el genotipo 1, como es el caso en la poblaci\u00f3n general, pero tambi\u00e9n el genotipo 3 es muy prevalente en PWID. El genotipo 4 es m\u00e1s prevalente en \u00c1frica y se extiende a Europa, mientras que los genotipos 2 y 6 est\u00e1n m\u00e1s ubicados en Asia. La diferencia m\u00e1s importante en comparaci\u00f3n con la poblaci\u00f3n general es, en general, una menor prevalencia del genotipo 1b y una mayor prevalencia del genotipo 1a y 3 en las PWID.
